THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR

Week 1, Monday

John 6

Jesus feeds thousands of people.

Jesus walks on the water to save His disciples from a storm.

Jesus begins to teach about who He was and what following Him really meant.

And what was the response? Many people stopped following Him and His disciples got mad at Him for this teaching. They complained that it was “too hard”.

Christmas is a time for thinking about Jesus. Celebrating His birth and life. Commemorating what His life, and death, means to us.

But it also a time when we quickly forget what it is all about. Jesus’ disciples and the greater crowd of followers did that in John 6. They like it when Jesus was all about getting things from Him. But when He taught that there was more to the story, they didn’t want any part of it.

And now, at December 25, we want the parties, the gifts, the feel good moments. But there is more to the story. The life we celebrate beginning had a purpose beyond that beginning. And it is that purpose that makes this “the most wonderful time of the year.”

Lord, thank You for Your life. Thank You for the daily miracles You do in our lives. But help us to also remember the purpose for which You came. That is, to die that we might live.
